ABSENCE AND PRESENCE - THE LIGHT OF LONGING

In your Absence, I found my own Presence,

in the faded light of longing.

I am witnessed by the descending glow of the sun

before he slides behind the dark curves

of the luminous mountains.

I am acknowledged in the fleeting trail

of a shooting star's eyes.

I am validated in the cough and splutter of

the final sparks of my dying plastic lighter.

I have arrived in the candle flame that

proudly burns its pride in

the dimming light of its final flickers,

taking an ego shard as a souvenir.

I am held by the round metallic lights

of a passing pickup that transports

my loneliness to a future destination.

I am satiated by the artificial light of the

glowing fridge, whose door opens and closes

on my hunger, like a moody crab.

I am wholly witnessed by the bats blind eyes which catch

the light of the moon, on our shared flight path.

I am confirmed in the last greedy grasp of a

cigarrette's glow before it dies, taking with it

my memory of you, in all your absence.

Through your absence, I find my own presence

reflected in the light of longing, light that is always leaving.

My Presence and Your Absence, forever dancing in fading lights,

leaving the dull ache of Longing.
